For Rubina, Ladakh was never just another holiday. It was a dream she had quietly worked towards for years, making the trip feel more like a personal milestone than a vacation. She and Rahul wanted the experience to live up to everything they had imagined.

A Gentle Start in Leh and Sham Valley
Their journey began in Leh, where a private transfer took them to their hotel, and the journey alone was enough to ease them into the rhythm of Leh.
Instead of rushing into sightseeing, Rubina and Rahul followed the recommended acclimatisation schedule, giving themselves time to adjust to Ladakh’s altitude. A relaxed evening exploring Leh Market, visiting Shanti Stupa, and wandering through the historic Leh Palace eased them into the region's unique pace.
The next day, they set out for Sham Valley, where Ladakh’s landscapes truly began to unfold. Along the way, they witnessed the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, experienced the famous Magnetic Hill phenomenon, and visited Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. Stops at the SECMOL campus, made famous by 3 Idiots, and the Hall of Fame War Memorial added both familiarity and perspective, offering a deeper appreciation of Ladakh's culture and history.
By the time they returned to Leh that evening, Rubina and Rahul felt reassured that every detail of the trip was unfolding just as they had hoped.
Into Nubra Valley via Khardung La
The drive from Leh to Nubra Valley became one of the defining experiences of Rahul's and Rubina's journey. Crossing the legendary Khardung La Pass, they watched the landscape change dramatically, with rugged mountain roads gradually giving way to the wide valleys of Nubra.
By this point, something else had begun to stand out to Rubina. Before the trip, she had expected the packed itinerary to be physically demanding, leaving little room to slow down. Instead, every transfer, stop, and sightseeing experience felt well-paced, allowing them to enjoy each destination without feeling rushed.
The day ended at the Hunder Sand Dunes, where snow-capped mountains rose behind a vast cold desert. Watching the region's distinctive double-humped Bactrian camels wander across the sand while adventure seekers explored the dunes on ATVs made for a memorable contrast. That evening, they settled into their riverside camp along the Shyok River, ending the day beneath a sky filled with stars.
Where Pangong Ends, Hanle Begins
Leaving Nubra behind, Rahul and Rubina travelled through the remote villages of Agham and Shyok before arriving at the breathtaking Pangong Lake. Watching its waters shift through shades of blue with the changing sunlight was a moment Rubina had imagined for years, yet seeing it in person was something else entirely.
That evening, they slowed down at their lakeside camp, where the quiet surroundings and the stillness of Pangong made for one of the most peaceful nights of the trip.
The journey then continued towards Hanle, one of Ladakh's most remote regions. Along the way, they stopped at the Rezang La War Memorial, reflecting on the extraordinary bravery of Indian soldiers. In Hanle, they visited the Indian Astronomical Observatory, one of the world's highest observatories, where the region's exceptionally clear skies have made it an important centre for astronomical research.
The Road Home Through the Himalayas
The journey to Umling La became the defining achievement of Rahul and Rubina's Ladakh adventure. As they climbed towards the world's highest motorable pass, every kilometre brought thinner air, dramatic mountain vistas, and the satisfaction of reaching a destination they had long dreamed about.
The next day, they began their return to Leh via the scenic Chumathang Valley, taking their driver's recommendation to enjoy one final, unhurried drive through Ladakh's landscapes. Before reaching the city, they stopped at the beautiful Thiksey Monastery, where centuries-old murals, towering Buddha statues, and the monastery's peaceful atmosphere offered a fitting conclusion to the journey.
It was the perfect way to end a trip that had taken them across iconic passes, high-altitude lakes, and some of the Himalayas' most remote and remarkable landscapes.
The next day, they flew back home, and a call from the team ensured their safe arrival. And that’s how Rubina knew the trip really was over.
